Justine Henin Is Granted Wildcard for Australian Open Tennis
Oct. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Justine Henin, who last month ended her retirement from the women’s tennis tour, was granted a wildcard entry for the 2010 Australian Open. Henin, a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, asked organizers of the season-opening major for a wildcard at the weekend, Tournament Director Craig Tiley said today in a statement. Henin won the 2004 title at Melbourne Park. “I know Justine will not have made the decision to come out of retirement lightly, and have no doubt she will be in great shape and prepared to compete against the world’s best,” Tiley said. Henin, 27, quit the sport in May 2008 while ranked No. 1, saying she wanted “a new start” in life. Before her retirement, she won 41 career titles, including four French Opens, two U.S. Opens and the Australian Open.
